There are a wide range of special services held across the Benefice from seasonal ones such as carol services to outdoor ones such as those held at Langley House. They offer the opportunity for those who don’t normally attend church to catch a glimpse of God’s glory, sometimes in the context of creation, and to find out how much God loves them and has a plan for their lives.
Christmas
The festive season draws many people into church and there are carol services and other festive events right across the Benefice. St Andrew’s is packed with families and small children for the annual Christingle service on Christmas Eve with lighted Christingles lighting the darkness as everyone sings in a round.
Easter
From Palm Sunday, through the drama of Holy Week, right up to the joy of Easter morning, Easter runs the full gamut of emotions. At St Andrew’s Maundy Thursday is marked by a passover meal which transitions into a commemoration of the Last Supper. On Good Friday there is a walk of witness through the town, followed by reflections at the foot of the cross. A triumphant Easter service has Ukrainian elements with the sharing of Paska bread and is followed by joyful celebration as we share hot cross buns and Buck’s fizz.
