✚ This hidden church has risen like a phoenix since it nearly closed in early 2000. It now holds some seven to eight varied, well-attended services from Pentecost to Pet service, music and meditation to Harvest Thanksgiving.
✚ Set in a wooded valley, the flower-rich churchyard has been management for wildlife for the past 40 years. Some 70 species of plants have been recorded and a recent survey identified six different bats.
✚ The tower has the lightest church-ring of eight bells in the country and visiting bands come from far and wide to test their skills on these frisky bells. The service bell was cast in 1380 and is one of the oldest in Somerset.
✚ The 80 residents of Tolland love their little church with its churchyard – their only community space and fundraise enthusiastically for its upkeep. American friends, whose ancestors came from the parish, also visit regularly and support the church.
✚ After a recent questionnaire to the local people, plans are afoot to re-order the church as a more multi-functional building, so it can become an even greater asset to the community.
