But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 19:14.
One of the most exciting things to happen is that we have a new meeting space in St. Andrews! One of the south bays in the church has been transformed and it allows our creche or children’s groups to meet in a space of their own behind a glass screen whilst still being a part of the service, worship and fellowship that takes place!
We have a vibrant and growing children’s and youth ministry taking place through St. Andrews in particular with a number of groups now meeting across the week. Children are welcome to all of our services across the benefice. At St. Andrews during the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Sundays we have dedicated activities for most ages, and during family services children are a core part of the service itself.
To see all of our regular children’s activities there is a list of services and events that children are part of here.
For primary school age children up to about 10 years this is held during the service with the children going out after the first hymn and either coming back at the end or for communion.
For 10 years plus this group has either been held at the Rectory or at the back of the church in the tower room, again the children leave after the first hymn and then come back at the end of the service.
We have our creche area at the side of the church in the new meeting room space, which is always open for use during any service. There are also activity packs with topical colouring and activity sheets plus other activities. These also include children’s service books that guide them through the service with pictures and explanations of what is happening.
Sunday Schools in The Hills
Huish Champflower Sunday School
Sunday school for the Hills parishes is held at St Peter’s Huish Champflower on the first Sunday of every month at 10:30 (before the family service at 11:15). Stories, colouring and crafts in a happy and informal atmosphere. Children of all ages are warmly welcome; parents too if they like.
Waterrow Sunday School
Sunday School also takes place at Waterrow during the Waterrow Worship service. Waterrow also has Messy Waterrow every other month for the family and children to get involved with.
We have a small but dedicated youth group that meet once a month in someone’s home and they run our occasional youth services. This group also helps to run our X Stream and All Sorts children’s groups.
We run a series of other activities for youth and children throughout the year which have varied from holiday clubs, trips to Spring Harvest and picnics.
In 2017 and 2018 we took a group of people to SPREE South West which is a Christian Camp for children and the youth. To find out more click here!
