Ask the people of Wiveliscombe to describe their town and the two words ‘friendly’ and ‘thriving’ will crop up time and again. Known affectionately as Wivey, this historic market town of just under 3,000 people is set in wonderful surroundings on the edge of Exmoor, in the Brendon Hills. The area is known as the 10 parishes, with Wiveliscombe – surrounded by Ashbrittle, BathealtonBrompton Ralph, ChipstableClatworthy, FitzheadHuish ChampflowerMilverton and Stawley – forming the hub. There are more than 300 businesses operating within a five-mile radius and this hardworking community also has its own radio station, newspaper and community transport service (Wivey Link Community Transport) – just some of the many good reasons to be in Wivey.

There is a secondary school that has a large rural catchment from across the area which also takes in children from a number of local primary schools in Wivey and the surrounding villages.

Wivey also boasts its own open air swimming pool, a town hall, tennis club, rugby club, recreation ground, several pubs, takeaways and restaurants, a range of shops and facilities including a weekly market and a plethora of local groups, clubs and societies.
